To investigate the origin of the fluctuations in exciton-exciton coupling strength and their dependence on the excitation energy in donor-acceptor mixtures, the Franck-Condon-like analysis of the absorption and fluorescence properties was carried out. The excited state dynamics of such a two-component system was characterized by a set of peaks and their positions in the absorption and fluorescence spectra as a function of the energy of the exciting light. A wavepacket model was applied to describe the delocalization of the exciton in the two-dimensional space. The wavepacket size in the ground state was determined by the quasicontinuum approximation, and its size in the excited state was calculated in the Franck-Condon approximation. The theoretical analysis was performed for two equidistant donor/acceptor chromophores separated by 1, 3, and 5 nm. The transition dipole moments were taken as the sum of the contributions of the donor and acceptor. The dependence of the peak positions in the absorption and fluorescence spectra on the excitation energy indicated that the observed fluctuations in the exciton-exciton coupling strength can be explained only by considering fluctuations of the transition dipole moments in the excited states of the donor-acceptor mixtures. A nonlinear dependence of the peak positions on the exciting light energy was found, which demonstrates a modification of the exciton delocalization in the excited state.Q:
